Pregnancy Yoga

This workshop series offers pregnant women* a space to create inner strength, and a deepening connection to self, to baby, to other women sharing the journey. Active birth principles and techniques are applied to cultivate a positive and empowered birth experience.

The sessions include carefully crafted yoga sequences to support musculoskeletal conditioning, pranayama (yogic breathwork), meditation, as well as weekly prompt and activities which encompass the practical, philosophical and spiritual.

Each session is designed to offer you tools for life. The course intends to cultivate both independence and a sense of belonging in community.

Weekly topics include:

Week 1: Turning inward - the power of your breath.

Explore the power of the mind, body and spirit connection, and the way in which your breath is a simple and immediate way to reconnect with, and centre yourself. We will explore breath-centred movement and postures (asanas) to mindfully target specific areas of the body. A selection of breathing techniques (pranayama) will be workshopped, providing women with options to utilise throughout their pregnancy and beyond.

Week 2: Trusting and listening to your body.

Space to truly listen to your needs and sharpen your intuition. This means, listening to your immediate feelings and thoughts so that you can navigate yourself to feelings of safety, comfort, control and confidence throughout your pregnancy. An array of warm ups and flows will be facilitated whilst providing you with space to become more attuned to your body’s cues to make adjustments (interoception), and being aware of your body in space (proprioception).

Week 3: Adapting to change.

As your body changes day-to-day to accommodate your growing baby, maintaining stability and strength is crucial in order to remain strong and healthy. This workshop discusses the typical changes in a woman’s body during pregnancy. Particular attention will be given to the spine, core, pelvis and pelvic floor. Practical advice will be given to support and strengthen these specific regions of the body through exercises and yoga sequences, providing opportunities to develop a stronger connection to your pelvic floor.

Week 4: Maintaining a stable foundation.

Your feet and legs anchor you to Mother Earth. Your pelvis cradles your growing baby. There is life around; there is life within. The Earth is fertile and so are you. This workshop will revisit the pelvic floor whilst targeting the legs and glutes in a sequence of postures to help you ground-down through your foundation and create more stability.

Week 5: Opening to possibilities.

Explore the power of a woman’s body, stages of labour, and the way in which words, thoughts and actions can influence one’s mindset. Specific movements and postures for labour will be facilitated as we draw on previous learnings regarding breath, interoception and proprioception, and finding strength and stability within your body and mind.

Week 6: Carrying a load of love.

Quint-essential information about feeding, as well as yoga postures to maintain strong and stable arms, shoulders and chest. This session offers vital information on establishing breastfeeding to set you up for success. A series of exercises and a gentle flow will provide you with an opportunity to feel into these regions of your body.

*This course is for women and non-binary people
